Chapter 146

The punch tears through Tengai's barrier and drives both yakuza into the wall. Fat Gum goes straight to Red Riot, who is barely awake and still performing toughness. He remembers their first meeting at his agency, where the boy declared he wanted to work the front lines and save lives the way Crimson Riot did, and how much that resolve surprised him. Then Rappa stands up. With every scrap of stored fat spent, Fat Gum has nothing left to answer with.

Instead of attacking, Rappa points to a room close by that holds medical supplies and tells Fat Gum to patch his partner up, calling the boy a man. Fat Gum doubts him; Rappa points out he is not built for lying. Tengai, conscious and immobile, calls the gesture selfish and demands Rappa remember his duty, and gets kicked unconscious for it. Rappa notes he has no strength left for barriers of his own and cannot even lift his arms, his bones being broken. Asked what he actually wants, he describes the underground fight club he came from, the one place he could cut loose, except that nobody there withstood him, which left him starving for a fight that might kill him. Fat Gum and Eijiro finally gave him one, so they interest him now, and he wants them healed so the rematch can be worth something. Warned that arrest is coming, Rappa waves it off. Fat Gum finds no hidden motive in him, and looking at Eijiro he knows the boy is neither the coward he called himself nor merely a hero, but a man his own enemy acknowledges.

In the first aid room, with Eijiro bandaged and the bleeding stopped, Fat Gum asks why Rappa signed on with Kai. The answer: Overhaul is the only person who ever beat him. Kai turned up at the fight club out of nowhere with a challenge, killed Rappa with his Quirk, and put him back together afterward. Five attempts have produced five losses. Fat Gum is stunned that Kai handled that strength and speed so easily, and asks why he does not fight himself, and what he is after. Rappa says Kai wants the yakuza restored, which draws an outraged rebuke from the bound Tengai. He does not know the specifics, only that Kai intends to release something and must raise a great deal of money first, and that the money puts the plan within reach.

In the basement just before the raid, Kai is irritated by the noise while Chronostasis, holding Eri, frets that the Shie Hassaikai may be finished. Kai disagrees: while he and the boss are both still standing, the group survives, though most members are loyal to the boss's ideals rather than to him, whatever he claims about valuing that will above anyone. Holding black containers, he says the finished product and the serum will restore the organization, that the incident to come will hurt the heroes badly, and that underground investors will arrive with money in hand. Walking on, he tells the two transfers to start working: Himiko Toga and Twice, who tell him the heroes are theirs to handle.

Rappa survives the punch, knocks Tengai out for arguing, and directs Fat Gum toward medical supplies for Eijiro, granting the boy the title of man and demanding a rematch someday.

Rappa reveals his origin as an undefeated underground fighter and that Overhaul beat him five times by killing and restoring him, which is why he joined the Bullets.

Kai's motive is outlined, and Overhaul and Chronostasis continue their escape with Eri, leaving the heroes to Himiko Toga and Twice.

Titled Temp Squad, the chapter appeared on July 24, 2017 in issue 34, runs seventeen pages, and is collected in volume 16. Episode 73 adapts it.

Fat Gum, Red Riot, Tengai, and Rappa appear on the cover. Hardening features, along with a flashback appearance of the Overhaul Quirk, and the Quirk-Destroying Drug appears as an item.

Scenes take place at the Shie Hassaikai Compound and, in flashback, the Fat Gum Agency, all within the ongoing Shie Hassaikai Raid. Horikoshi's comment thanks readers for three years of serialization.
