Chapter 151

With Eri in Mirio's arms, Overhaul wipes the mark off his cheek and orders the girl back, telling her she exists to ruin people and that refusing means Mirio dies. Mirio cuts in before she can answer and tells her to close her ears. Annoyed that her stubbornness is forcing him to work, Overhaul calls her existence a curse, and when Mirio demands to know why a father would speak that way, the glove comes off along with the truth: Eri is no daughter of his. His palm hits the floor and the ground comes apart.

Reassembled as a forest of spikes, the ground lunges at them, and Mirio phases while holding Eri clear of the wreckage. The speed impresses him almost as much as the total indifference to the girl's safety appalls him, and Overhaul returns the compliment by noting that Mirio is more than his Quirk. More spikes follow, since anything that happens to Eri can be repaired, a fact she has already learned firsthand. That detail is what makes Mirio furious. Carrying her means he cannot flee through solid matter, and the spike field has sealed off every route. Chronostasis, awake again, has a gun loaded with Quirk-destroying rounds. Mirio assumes Deidoro Sakaki's Quirk blunted his earlier kick.

Overhaul tells Chronostasis to target the arms and then dissolves the floor to leave Mirio hanging in open air. Mirio wraps himself and Eri in his cape, and the shot misses because the target cannot be seen. Guessing the trick, Overhaul rebuilds ground under his lieutenant just as Mirio surfaces there, knocking the gun loose. The punch never lands: Overhaul launches Chronostasis clear on a fresh platform, and the man apologizes for the trouble. Deciding the boy is stronger than expected, Overhaul moves to break him by killing Eri, and Mirio reappears behind him, phases an arm straight through the block, and connects with his face.

Mirio explains the cape as a wrapping for a child in agony, drops Chronostasis again as he reaches for the gun, grants that Overhaul is far above any ordinary yakuza, and then tells him he is stronger anyway before landing another punch and calling it checkmate. Hearing his own name enrages Overhaul, who discarded it long ago. As a boy with nowhere to go, he was taken in by the Shie Hassaikai's boss, who asked for a name and received Kai Chisaki. Years later, watching another yakuza group destroyed, the boss refused the plan Kai had already pitched him: abandon humanity and no one follows, because gangsters cannot lead as heartless brutes.

Mirio had beaten Shin thoroughly, three strikes to the head and the bullets stripped from his gun, leaving ten minutes of fog he should not have moved through. He crawls anyway, out of devotion. Everyone Shin ever questioned lied to him, then grew flustered and withdrew when asked why, which cost him the one trustworthy friend he wanted. Overhaul was the only person who never lied. Weeping from one eye, Shin drags himself back, and Overhaul throws him a case of Quirk-destroying bullets. Shin loads one, takes aim at Mirio, and waits for the order to fire.

Overhaul admits Eri was never his daughter and attacks with reconstructed spikes without regard for her safety.

Mirio protects Eri using Permeation, disarms Chronostasis, and lands repeated punches on Overhaul, declaring the fight checkmate.

Kai Chisaki's past is shown, including the Shie Hassaikai boss taking him in and rejecting his plan.

Shin Nemoto's devotion to Overhaul is explained, rooted in Overhaul being the only person who never lied to him.
