Long ago a strange mutation called Exceptional Abilities appeared and spread fast. One theory blames an unidentified virus carried around the world by mice, and treats it as the root of Quirks, though nothing solid supports the idea.

In the present, Overhaul argues that neither Deku nor Eri understands what her power really is. His research extracted it and pushed it to its peak, and the result is a bullet that snuffs out a Quirk Factor and returns a person to ordinary. He rebuilds the terrain and fires stone columns, but Full Cowl - 100% has made Izuku fast enough to slip every one, and a single kick launches Kai skyward. Izuku senses Eri's output climbing beyond her control, the way One For All once outran him.

Watching from a distance, Himiko Toga is transfixed by that strength while Twice wonders where the Mr. Compress clone went. It is pinned underground by Ryukyu, who lifts a weightless Sir Nighteye and Uravity topside with instructions to get the detective into an ambulance.

Airborne and hurt, Kai remembers. The boss once scolded him for beating a man bloody, and Kai answered that he was defending their turf and that the group had to make itself known again. The boss already knew about the Quirk-drug venture and had told him to drop it: repay the kindness if he must, but never go too far and never leave the path. Kai remembers telling Chrono that the Shie Hassaikai would die out without action, and Chrono answering that yakuza restoring the underworld was a fantasy. He kept going anyway.

With his research on Eri complete, Kai brought the plan to the boss. Sell villains the Quirk-destroying bullets, then sell heroes the serum that reverses the damage, both at a premium, with Eri sitting in the middle. Villains on one side, heroes on the other, the yakuza owning both ends of the market, profits enormous, the organization back in daylight. The boss had already rejected it and asked what he thought human beings were, telling him to leave if he would not follow their thinking. Kai had nowhere to go and nothing to want except to repay the man, so he invited the boss to simply watch from a distance instead. Quirks, he reasoned, created the heroes that cornered the boss; his plan would put the Shie Hassaikai back where it belonged.

Izuku leaps after Kai, who has already reassembled his wounds away and slashes with a claw. It misses. Izuku understands the repair loop, taking himself apart and back together fast enough to undo anything, and intends to outrun it with full power. He tears into the monstrous stone shell, shattering it while Kai cannot answer, then reaches the man himself and keeps swinging. If he cannot save one small girl standing right in front of him, he thinks, then a hero who saves everyone is a fiction. On the surface Ochaco and Sir Nighteye see the fight, and she asks about the vision of Izuku's death. He says the future he saw cannot change, and admits he is watching it change. Izuku's next punch snaps Kai's head back and takes the plague mask off his face.

Chisaki's Warped Compassion is chapter 158 of My Hero Academia, written and drawn by Kohei Horikoshi. It was published October 30, 2017 in issue 48 of that year, runs 17 pages, and opens Volume 18 within the Shie Hassaikai arc.

Overhaul takes the cover alone. The chapter is set at the Shie Hassaikai Compound and features Foresight, Rewind, Zero Gravity, Dragon, Double, One For All and Overhaul, with Full Cowl - 100% as the super move. The chapter notes record that Kai used his Quirk to force the boss into a coma after that refusal, taking the organization for himself. Episode 76 adapts it. The author comment apologizes for taking another week off.
