Chapter 27

Midnight lays out the Human Cavalry Battle. Fifteen minutes on the clock, and a team's worth equals the combined points of everyone on it, carried on a headband worn by the rider. That band may sit on the head or around the neck, and neither collapsing nor losing it knocks a team out of contention. Quirks are permitted so long as they are not turned to malicious ends. Negotiations open with a fifteen minute window.

Izuku struggles to attract partners, since his point total paints a target on him and nobody has any idea what his Quirk actually does. Ochaco volunteers, preferring to ride with a friend, much to his delight. Tenya turns him down, framing Izuku as a rival he intends to grow past rather than a teammate, and signs on with Shoto alongside Denki and Momo. The gadget-laden girl from the earlier race turns up to volunteer, giving her name as Mei Hatsume and her department as Support. Izuku then hunts for the raw power his group lacks, and spots exactly who he wants.

The clock runs out and Midnight calls the event to order. Team Midoriya takes shape with Izuku riding, Ochaco and Mei supporting, and Fumikage Tokoyami, the last recruit, anchoring the front. Izuku tells the group he is happy to have them.

Midnight explains the Cavalry Battle rules and the students sort themselves into teams.

Tenya refuses Izuku's invitation, naming him a rival he wants to face rather than stand beside.

Mei Hatsume of the Support Course joins Izuku, and Fumikage Tokoyami completes the lineup.

Nineteen pages, released January 19, 2015 in issue 9, gathered in Volume 4 during the U.A. Sports Festival arc. Episode 17 covers it.

The cover is a crowded one, stacking All Might, Thirteen, Snipe, Midnight, and much of Class 1-A. A sketch version was published alongside it.

Everything takes place inside the Sports Festival Stadium at U.A. High School in Musutafu.
