Chapter 278

Earphone Jack yanks her jacks back in alarm, and when Chargebolt presses her she tells everyone that something enormous is bearing down on them. The pros on standby move up and tell the students to stay behind.

Mt. Lady is already braced against Gigantomachia. On his back the villains compare notes: Dabi reasons the giant would not be walking at all unless Tomura had woken, and Himiko notes the timetable has slipped forward. Skeptic tries to climb off to reach Re-Destro and Dabi holds him down, pointing out that nobody below has noticed them yet. The giant bellows about reaching his master while the heroes scramble to reinforce Mt. Lady, wondering whether the Jaku team misjudged him as immobile. Geten attacks out of confusion, Cementoss catches him off guard, and then Re-Destro bursts up from underground with Edgeshot on him, rescuing Geten. Reading the same signal Dabi did, Re-Destro pins the heroes in place and orders his people to follow the giant and start the revolution.

Kamui Woods swings through the trees with Midnight riding his back, aiming for Gigantomachia's head. The behemoth swats Mt. Lady aside and picks a shortcut. Midnight overrides Kamui Woods' hesitation: force cannot bring this thing down, and if it reaches the city the city ends, so the answer is sleep, which is exactly what her Quirk delivers. Blue fire from Dabi engulfs Kamui Woods, and debris fired by Mr. Compress slams Midnight out of the air. Grounded and running out of options, she calls Creati, confirms she understands the situation, and tells her to knock the giant out with an anesthetic even if doing so breaks the law. Liberation soldiers close in before she can explain further; her last word is that if the job proves impossible, the students should hand the drug to the pros and evacuate. Rounding on the men closing in, she recalls how Creati handled herself in the Joint Training Battle, decides the girl will lead one day, and puts her faith there.

The line goes dead. Creati works the problem and lands on a plan: Earphone Jack and Tentacole track the giant by sound to fix his route and arrival time, with Tentacole's eyes useful given the target's size, and Mudman is pulled in to help. Earphone Jack confirms visual contact. Mt. Lady and Kamui Woods are both clinging to a leg, which buys almost nothing. Creati hands out the anesthetic and says she was never taught to be the kind of hero who turns her back, so she intends to fight. Chargebolt is in, on the logic that anyone who puts on the costume and walks outside is a hero, student or not.

Gigantomachia begins moving toward Tomura, swatting Mt. Lady away when she blocks the shortest path. Midnight and Kamui Woods attempt to sedate him rather than fight a body that cannot be broken, and both are taken out, Kamui Woods burned by Dabi and Midnight grounded by Mr. Compress before Liberation soldiers ambush her.

Re-Destro surfaces from the bunker on fresh mechanical legs with Edgeshot unable to hold him, and covers Geten from Cementoss. He orders the Front to march behind the giant.

Midnight passes the sedative plan to Creati and entrusts her with command. Creati hesitates, then assigns roles to the students and prepares them to engage.

The installment runs 19 pages in Weekly Shonen Jump issues 33 to 34 of 2020 and is collected in volume 29 as part of the Paranormal Liberation War arc. The cover assembles Gigantomachia with Skeptic, Spinner, Mr. Compress, Dabi, Himiko Toga and Mt. Lady. Episode 120 of the anime covers this material.

Everything takes place at the Gunga Mountain Villa, continuing the villa raid and both engagements between the raid team, the trainees and the Paranormal Liberation Front.
