Chapter 35 (Vigilantes)

Police pursue the speedster villain, who ignores both verbal warnings and warning shots, so Naomasa Tsukauchi orders live fire. Overclock lets him slip every round until one of the detective's shots grazes his leg, and from that hit Naomasa deduces the truth: the Quirk needs a few seconds to cool down between uses.

The officers rush him anyway. He triggers his speed again, time appears to stop, and he is simply elsewhere. The graze proves trivial. Noticing the squad is loading rubber rounds, he strips every weapon from every officer in an instant and fires their own guns into their bulletproof vests. Nobody dies, but the whole unit is left badly hurt, and he walks off with the evidence unopposed.

Over at the convention, Koichi Haimawari finds what looks like a kill switch on the mech and it does nothing. Monika Kaniyashiki and Fat Gum are still in pursuit and cannot close the gap, so Monika has Fat Gum hurl her at the machine, letting her land her Ultimate Move, Rocket Crab Clip, and shear off its legs to stop its advance.

She asks why Kazuho Haneyama is aboard at all, and Koichi explains that her manager put her there, which lands the guilt squarely on Monika. She pulls Kazuho clear just as the mech begins counting down to self-destruct. The three of them run, shouting at the crowd to clear out, but Kazuho trips and Koichi throws himself over her, both still inside the blast radius.

Fat Gum arrives and takes the explosion himself, swallowing the kinetic energy with Fat Absorption and saving them both. The yield is so large he can barely contain it, holding just long enough for everyone to scatter before letting it go, and his protective fat is spent doing it. Nobody is injured, though the venue is destroyed.

Fat Gum, now in his lean form, leaves with Monika to reinforce Naomasa. Monika tells her manager she will explain later and to hold on, which Koichi and Kazuho understand applies to them too. They also know they will miss their train and face trouble at home if the full story reaches their parents, so they look at the manager. Monika returns alongside Naomasa and Fat Gum and is startled that her manager let the pair go. He says he felt responsible for what happened to them, and Fat Gum points out they were key witnesses. Grasping his error, the manager offers a Marukane Department Store card as a way to reach someone connected to the event, and Naomasa is surprised to see his own sister Makoto listed on it as event coordinator. The chapter closes with Koichi and Kazuho back at the station, asleep on the train home.

Naomasa identifies the cooldown limitation on the Scarred Man's Overclock after grazing his leg, but the villain disarms the entire police unit and shoots them with their own rubber rounds before escaping with the evidence.

Monika stops the mech with Rocket Crab Clip after Fat Gum throws her at it, then rescues Kazuho as the self-destruct begins.

Fat Gum absorbs the explosion with Fat Absorption, saving Koichi and Kazuho, though his protective fat is spent doing it. The venue is wrecked but nobody is hurt.

Monika's manager gives Naomasa a Marukane Department Store card, and Naomasa discovers his sister Makoto Tsukauchi is named on it as event coordinator.

Hideyuki Furuhashi writes and Betten Court illustrates My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. This chapter carries the title Blown-Up Hero?! See Ya Later!, romanized Hīrō Bakuhatsu!? Hona, Sainara!

Twenty-one pages, published August 11, 2018, collected into volume 5 of the spin-off, part of the Osaka Incident arc, and adapted as Episode 15 of the Vigilantes anime.

The cover features the Police Force, Number 6, and Naomasa Tsukauchi. The chapter originally carried the title Rescue, or Kyūshutsu, which was changed for the volume release.
