Chapter 96

The Hero Billboard Chart JP, which ranks Japan's professionals twice a year, leads with turmoil. All Might's true form has thrown the country and even the American Hero Headquarters into disorder, and his retirement compounds it. Best Jeanist, ranked fourth, lived through Kamino but faces a long absence from duty. Ragdoll, ranked thirty-second, lost her Quirk in the same campaign, logged by the chart as an abnormal change, and her career is suspended with no end date.

At U.A., Nezu thanks All Might for a victory that saved a great many lives, then lays out the problem. Teaching can continue, but a man who cannot fight leaves parents and the wider public frightened for the students, and faith in heroes has to be rebuilt. Sekijiro Kan pledges to raise and shield the students harder than before. Nezu decides the moment has come for a plan he has held in reserve: converting U.A. into a boarding school. He and Sekijiro will take the families of Class 1-B while Shota Aizawa and All Might handle Class 1-A.

The Jiro household comes first. Kyotoku Jiro objects to entrusting his daughter to a school that let her be endangered and dislikes the dormitory idea. Shota concedes the negligence outright and swears both to fix it and to make Kyoka a fine hero. Kyoka, recovered, cuts in that her father already agreed after watching All Might's fight, pleased at the thought of her growing into someone like that. Back in the car, Shota is thrown by the absence of any real reproach. The Bakugo house offers none either. Mitsuki approves the relocation with enthusiasm, delighted to be rid of her son, and the two are shouting at each other within moments while Masaru attempts damage control. Calmer, she observes that Katsuki's recklessness and raw talent have earned him nothing but coddling and hollow praise, which built the arrogance, and she is grateful Shota looks at the boy rather than the gift. Her son came back alive because of the heroes, so U.A. can keep him, and she asks that he be made into something worthwhile. On the way out Katsuki asks All Might what Izuku Midoriya is to him. The truth is unavailable, so the answer is a student with enormous potential, much like Katsuki himself. He accepts it, thanks All Might, and goes inside.

All Might takes the Midoriya visit alone while Shota covers the rest of the class. The volume of All Might merchandise in the apartment unsettles him almost as much as his presence unsettles Izuku and Inko. Seated at the table, he asks Inko's permission for the dorms. She refuses. Her son's Quirk injures him rather than serving him, and after watching that battle she cannot stop imagining the bloody road ahead, one no full recovery waits at the end of. U.A. has not earned her confidence, and she will not hand her child over.

Nezu begins converting U.A. into a boarding school, sending teachers to canvass the families of Classes 1-A and 1-B.

Shota Aizawa and All Might visit the Jiro and Bakugo households, where both families approve the move. Katsuki presses All Might about his relationship with Izuku and receives a deflection.

Inko Midoriya meets All Might in person and refuses permission outright, unwilling to trust U.A. with her son.

During the conversation at the Jiro house, Kyoka mentions that her father brought up the rock band Brian the Sun while watching the fight. The band performed HEROES, the ending theme of the anime's first season.
