He reads more like a frog than a toad, and his whole look leans theatrical. Light green skin carries yellow patterning throughout, purple eyes sit above painted cheeks, and he finishes the effect with red lipstick, blush, and eyeliner. A large red-violet bow is fixed to his back. The overall impression is deliberately effeminate, often likened to a drag performer in toad form.

Gamariki is all flourish, forever punctuating his speech with sweeping gestures. In the original Japanese he tacks a cutesy -chan onto names, and his voice normally pitches high, dropping into a deeper, graver register only when a situation turns serious, which he can do when it counts. His history with Naruto is prickly: a botched first meeting soured them on each other, and the two openly dislike one another.

For all the theatrics, he is a capable toad. His Whip of Love can bind or knock out a target, and he draws on Water Release for the Water Gun, which grows stronger when combined with his summoner. His specialty is genjutsu, which he delivers through a kiss: his Genjutsu Kiss drops a victim into a hallucinated world. That very technique fueled the rift with Naruto. Set to learn illusion-dispelling under Jiraiya, Naruto was kissed into a genjutsu, and in tearing free he burst out chakra like a Rasengan, blasting Gamariki into a canal and knocking him cold. When Jiraiya later summoned him to teach collaboration techniques, Naruto and Gamariki failed to sync, and Naruto swapped him out for Gamakichi and Gamatatsu instead.
