Freshly out of the hospital after his clash with Sasuke, Naruto leaves Konoha alongside Jiraiya for a three-year training journey, cutting his teeth on breaking genjutsu before the pair stumble into a village seized by a rogue ninja. This 187th Shippuden episode opens the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha.
As Naruto mends from the wounds he took battling Sasuke, Jiraiya visits and lays out a plan: the moment the hospital releases him, the two will spend three years away from Konoha training. Jiraiya insists the goal is to prepare against the Akatsuki and warns that pursuing Sasuke would be a fool's errand, to which Naruto cheerfully answers that a fool is exactly what he is. Once he recovers, master and student set off together.
Anticipating that Sasuke will sharpen his Sharingan genjutsu, Jiraiya drills Naruto on shrugging off illusions. While Naruto trains through the night, Jiraiya remembers pointing out the boy's resemblance to the Fourth Hokage and reflects on Minato and Kushina. The next day he summons Gamariki to hit Naruto with a Genjutsu Kiss, telling him to churn his chakra inside himself to break the spell; Naruto instead spins it outward and clobbers the toad. Hoping to press the lesson, the pair travel to the Genjutsu Tree Village, whose trees emit a magnetic field that triggers illusions. They find the settlement overrun by Kandachi, who has murdered its former leader Sukune and is holding the women and children captive. To infiltrate, Naruto disguises himself as the boy Tanishi and binds Jiraiya, feigning a captured prisoner, so the two can be marched down to the lake where Kandachi rules.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
A continuity oddity appears when Naruto glances at the Hokage Rock before departing: Tsunade's face is already carved beside Minato's, though it was absent when he left at the close of Part I, and he later remarks upon returning that the newly engraved face was the only change to the village. The episode premiered in Japan on November 25, 2010, aired in English on May 4, 2013, and carries the opening Diver and the ending U Can Do It!.
