Appearance

A brown afro pulled back beneath a striped bandanna sits above Hassaku's light eyes and prominent lips. His usual outfit pairs red pinstriped trousers with a sleeveless haori, bandages wound at the waist, and a blade slung on his side. Once Shizuma declares his rebellion, Hassaku adds a forehead protector and a long-sleeved black jinbaori coat trimmed in tan and grey, worn over his clothes in the old warrior fashion.

Personality

Abrasive and territorial, Hassaku bristles at outsiders and looks for excuses to brawl. He shares his comrades' contempt for the tranquil age ushered in by the Sixth Mizukage, treating the sight of tourists strolling through the village as a stain on their warrior heritage. Restoring the Bloody Mist era and toppling Chōjūrō becomes the whole of his purpose, a cause he clings to as though nothing else gives his life meaning, and he grows fixated on keeping hold of Kubikiribōchō. He shows no remorse, later sparking a jailbreak riot rather than take the rehabilitation offered to him.

History

Hassaku fights with a sword and favours palm strikes, marking some grounding in both blades and hand-to-hand, and he is strong enough to heft the massive Kubikiribōchō one-handed, though swinging so heavy a weapon soon wears him down. He first crosses Boruto by shoving past him in an alley and picking a quarrel, only for Shizuma to pull him away.

After Kagura is talked into leading the group to the sword vault, Hassaku claims the executioner's blade and joins the plan to smash the Kirigakure Memorial Stone and install Kagura as a puppet Mizukage. The scheme unravels when Boruto, Sarada and Chōjūrō intervene; the Sixth Mizukage turns Hassaku's own strike against him and knocks him out, and the rebels are jailed for rehabilitation. Later he and Ichirōta Oniyuzu help Shizuma break out of prison, only to be spent as expendable decoys, recaptured, and shut away separately from the other swordsmen.
