Kaito keeps a relaxed air with a faint edge of condescension. The friendliness masks a trickster: he swipes Chocho's chips and cons Boruto into shouldering an exam's grunt work for him. Above all he is proud, refusing to lean on anyone else for help.

Kaito and his Team 9 finished the Academy a year before Boruto's group and have since taken on frequent missions abroad. He fights with insect-based methods, spinning webbing from his palms to grab or pin a target and tagging foes with insects that serve as homing markers. When Naruto revives the Chunin Exams after Isshiki's assault, Kaito clears the written round and, in the second stage, plants a tracker on Boruto so he can ride Boruto's effort to save a stranded ally. The scheme backfires when a startling bear sends him tumbling off a ledge and leaves him hurt. Boruto refuses to abandon him, hauling both Kaito and the ally to safety at the cost of the time limit, and is promoted anyway for that very display of loyalty.
