Personality

On the surface Kamata reads as greedy and underhanded, yet nearly everything he does is for his younger sister. He loves her deeply and will go to great lengths to provide for her, even lying to her about the life he has been leading, ashamed of what it has taken. For all his shamelessness, he keeps a thread of honour and stays loyal to those he grows close to.

History

Kamata is serving time at Hozuki Castle. When Boruto Uzumaki and Mitsuki landed in his cell, he promptly informed the newcomers they belonged on the bottom bunks and swiped Boruto's toothbrush, only returning it once Mitsuki lifted his magazine in trade. Later, when the inmates wagered on whether Boruto could fetch a watchtower's light bulb for the cell's inner boss, Kamata fumbled and accidentally backed Boruto to succeed, which paid off. Around then a new prisoner, Kokuri, joined the cell, a missing access tag threw the block into lockdown, and the search eventually pinned the theft on Arai, whom the cellmates handed over to spare themselves. Learning that Kokuri was a runaway of the Mujina Bandits who had made off with a fortune, Kamata warmed to him in hopes of a cut.

His scheming caught up with him when the chief guard, Benga, revealed he knew Kamata's crimes and prison earnings all went toward his sister's medical bills. Benga seized his winnings and threatened to expose the truth to her unless Kamata spied on Boruto and Kokuri, sweetening the deal with a promised visit. While snooping, Kamata discovered that Boruto and Mitsuki were Konoha shinobi working undercover to keep Kokuri alive until he could be moved to Konohagakure, and that the money Kokuri stole had been quietly donated to the very clinic treating his sister. Moved by this, he lied to shield his new friends; Benga saw through it, beat him, threw him into solitary confinement, and lengthened his sentence, yet Kamata took pride in protecting the man who had helped her. After Benga's death and Mujo's return to command, he was sent back to his cell, where he settled in to read his sister's letters.
