Kisuke Maboroshi

Tall and long-haired in brown, he keeps a heavy fringe draped over the right half of his face. During life he bound the rest into a top knot, but as a ghost it hangs free. His living outfit joined a high-collared blue shirt to a short green kimono cinched with a yellow belt, worn over calf-length purple trousers and sandals; in death the shirt lengthens into a robe that falls past his legs, the trousers gone.

At heart he is a devoted man, tender toward his wife and loyal to the Land of Fire. Reduced to a spirit, he proves surprisingly skittish, startled by Naruto's shout at their first meeting and gloomy over his half-dead state, though he adjusts quickly enough that he barely flinches when his sleeping body is finally destroyed.

A skilled tracker and spy in the Anbu ranks, Kisuke favored traps in a fight, once pinning Sabiru with wires he had set beforehand. When Konoha's leaders feared a mole in their midst, they sent him to find the culprit, and his trail led to the rising shinobi Sabiru. He confronted the traitor in a forest one night, but Sabiru fooled him with a shadow clone and cast him into the river; clinging to a rock, Kisuke heard that his wife was already dead and his house burned before Sabiru tore out his soul and sealed it to the stone. Years later Naruto unwittingly loosened the seal, and Kisuke's spirit rose with no memory of who he had been. The two located his comatose body in the hospital, which Sabiru soon destroyed, killing him a second time. At the ruins of his home the sight of a single tulip returned his memories, and with Naruto and Kakashi he moved to stop Sabiru's dangerous security scheme, borrowing Naruto's body to strike. Before he could take his revenge, Kabuto silently ended Sabiru to keep him quiet. Freed at last, Kisuke rejoined his wife in the afterlife, asking Naruto to lay tulips on their grave and to live his own life to the fullest before he faded away.
