History

Counted among the Land of Fire's mightiest during his lifetime, Kitane ranked with Nauma, Tōu, and Seito as the era's foremost lightning wielders. He fought in the manner of Asuma, marrying skilled taijutsu to his element through a three-piece metal staff that carried his lightning; he could drive a charge through the ground, split the staff to bind a target within a barrier using the Lightning Release: Thunder Binding, and, positioned at one of the cardinal points with his three peers, unleash Limelight to burn an area to ash. A decade before the series, when six of the Twelve Guardian Ninja mounted a coup, Kitane stood with Asuma and the loyalists against them and was cut down by Kazuma as the four lightning users tried to turn Limelight on him. So feared were his talents that his body was hidden with great care, yet grave robbers stole it along with his comrades' and revived them through lightning. Alone among the raised dead in keeping his wits, Kitane turned on Asuma, insisting he could not defy his summoner, and locked him inside a Thunder Binding barrier. Asuma put him down once more before he could reach the Limelight position, and with Kazuma's plot in ruins Kitane chose to release the still-bound Nauma, Tōu, and Seito.
