Teuchi

Teuchi is most often pictured behind the counter of his ramen stand, an older, good-humored cook who usually wears a smile as he works. He runs the shop hand in hand with his daughter Ayame, and the two are a familiar fixture of the stall.

Warmth defines Teuchi. He is quick to smile and has always looked out for Naruto, counting him his best customer, slipping him a free bowl on special days, and even checking in when the boy has been absent for a while. That kindness sits beside a craftsman's hard edge, though. He runs a strict kitchen and will bark at an apprentice who fouls up, such as jamming a thumb into a serving of ramen, and he carries a reputation for being stubborn and set in his ways.

Teuchi committed himself to ramen as a teenager, decades before the Fourth Shinobi World War, and the anime pairs him with Hakkaku as a fellow student under one master chef. Ayame arrives years afterward. Long before the wider village came around to Naruto, Teuchi simply saw a boy who loved his cooking, and he kept feeding him no matter what the town thought. The small gestures pile up over the arcs: a free, pricey bowl on the eve of the Chunin Exams as a good-luck send-off, and later the quiet pride he feels watching customers hail Naruto as a miracle boy, though he insists they let the young man finish eating before signing autographs.

The anime folds him into several detours. His prized recipe becomes a target when Hakkaku kidnaps Ayame to steal it, and Naruto, Choji, and Sakura pitch in to cook their way to a rescue. He grows sharp with his apprentices Matsu and Nishi, refusing to serve their flawed bowls to Naruto. When Tsunade recovers, Sakura rushes into Ichiraku with the news, only for Naruto to vanish mid-meal through a reverse summoning. He is also among those Naruto and Sasuke release from the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

In the years that follow, Teuchi keeps the stand running. During the Rinne Festival he serves Naruto's friends and declares the meal is on Naruto himself. By the time of the wedding, the fish-cake topping named naruto has overtaken seaweed in popularity, driven by the village's affection for its hero, and demand outstrips what he can prepare. Touched and a little surprised to be invited to the ceremony at all, he wrestles with how much free ramen to give as a gift, his estimates shrinking each time he pictures the shop going broke, before settling on a lifetime of free bowls for Naruto. Well into the New Era, he is still at his post when Naruto stops by with Iruka, Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki.
