Personality

Fully aware that no other pig can do what he does, Tonsuke carries himself with a swagger and will happily clamber onto someone's head without a second thought. He is famously particular, eating only his special food and only at set hours, and he flatly withholds his talents from anyone who fails to feed him. Bravery is not among his gifts, and he bolted in fright at the sight of wolves and of Wasabi Izuno's beastly transformation.

History

What sets Tonsuke apart is a nose finer than any ordinary pig's, the sole snout able to locate the Gekkoran flower, and he can even scramble up trees despite that being unusual for his kind. For that reason he was assigned to Shikadai Nara's squad to guide their search. He wasted no time acting superior, which infuriated Iwabee, then perched on the boy's head and rode along. When wolves and Wasabi's transformation spooked him he fled, but Shikadai tracked him down in a tree by spotting his telltale belly mark.

At a swaying suspension bridge Shikadai chose to carry him across personally; the pig panicked and nearly tumbled into a ravine before Boruto snatched him back. Bandits hunting the same flower then tried to grab him, springing a knife-laden trap that gashed Shikadai's leg and made him drop the pig, who bolted again until Boruto recovered him. A swap was uncovered when the returned pig ate mushrooms rather than his special food and lacked the birthmark; Shikadai lured the real Tonsuke back with food while Iwabee's Earth Release shielded him, and once the thieves were beaten Tonsuke duly turned up the Gekkoran flower.
