Crisis: The Threat of Failing!

At the Academy, Denki keeps failing the drill for scaling vertical surfaces, and the prospect of repeating the year like Iwabee eats at him, made worse when Iwabee overhears the comparison. Metal offers to train him, taking him rock climbing where Rock Lee catches his fall, but the practice yields nothing. Iwabee, meanwhile, struggles with arithmetic even with Boruto's help, and Inojin and Shikadai figure Denki would make the better tutor, though they doubt Iwabee would accept after the earlier jab.

Watching Denki still battling the wall, Iwabee sets aside his pride and coaches him, and the advice finally works. Iwabee explains he lost his friends when they graduated without him and would not wish that on anyone. The two agree to help each other, and Denki has Iwabee study while clinging to the ceiling with chakra, since focus comes easier that way.

On test day the pair pass a building on fire. Hearing a mother despair for her trapped children, Iwabee rushes in and works to seal off the flames, while Denki, suspecting the sprinklers should be running, scales the wall and climbs through a window to help. Iwabee restores the sprinkler system with an Earth Release wall in place, and together they carry the children down the side of the building. Arriving late to the Academy, they explain themselves to Shino, who rules that saving lives proved the very skills a test is meant to confirm, and passes them both as their friends celebrate.

Iwabee teaches Denki the trick to wall-walking, ending their friction, and the two agree to tutor each other. On the day of the exam they rescue a mother's children from a burning building, with Iwabee repairing the sprinklers and Denki climbing in to assist. Shino passes both boys, judging their real rescue worth more than the test.
