Naruto: Outbreak

In the rubble left by Pain's attack, Sakura, Shizune, and Tonton keep watch over the comatose Tsunade. Naruto and Choji drop by with a meal, and after Naruto darts off to help rebuild Ichiraku, an offhand remark about his boundless energy sends Sakura drifting into a memory.

She recalls Naruto coming back from an unfamiliar village looking unwell, then sneezing on her as she headed out for her own assignment. That night, resting off a huge ramen binge, Naruto was ambushed by a squad of Konoha medical-nin sent to detain him. He slipped past team after team dispatched under Tsunade's authority, unaware of why he was being hunted.

Once he wrings the truth from a captured medic, Naruto learns Tsunade suspected him of carrying a rare chakra virus that could ruin a person's ability to mould chakra. With the village still fragile after the Konoha Crush, she refused to risk an epidemic. He was eventually cornered and taken to the hospital, where tests proved he had never been infected at all. Tsunade brushed off his demand for an apology, calling the whole affair an emergency exercise and thanking him for cooperating, which left him furious. Back in the present, Sakura concludes that fools may not catch colds, but they certainly know how to cause an uproar.

Sakura remembers a full-scale operation to seize Naruto after he returned home appearing ill. Tsunade, fearing a dangerous chakra virus so soon after the Konoha Crush, ordered medical teams to capture him. Naruto evaded pursuers throughout the day before being caught and cleared at the hospital. Tsunade revealed the manhunt was an emergency drill, infuriating Naruto and closing the lighthearted recollection.

This filler entry sits within the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha stretch and runs the opening Diver against the ending U Can Do It!. The crowd sheltered inside the Hokage monument slips in numerous outside and even deceased faces, among them Team Oboro, Hayate Gekko, Zabuza, Haku, Shigure, and Baiu. Since Sasuke appears hospitalized yet has not fought Naruto, the flashback is placed between episodes 106 and 107 of the original series.
