Naruto's School of Revenge

When Tazuna hails Naruto as a hero, Sakura drifts back to the days when he was little more than a troublesome, if amusing, child. In that memory, Team 7 draws the chore of minding an ostrich named Condor, a task Sasuke grumbles about after their earlier stints watching a cat and a dog. On the road to a village they stumble into a street feud between Tsukado and Katazu, and when Tsukado proves unable to strike his target down, Naruto appoints himself the man's coach.

After a gang leader named Kanabun rekindles the quarrel, Naruto notices that Katazu is not defending himself and halts the fight to force the truth out. Tsukado had been sent by his family to avenge a distant relative Katazu supposedly killed, but the death had been an accident during a struggle with the relative's twin brother. Because that brother had a wife and a newborn, Katazu chose to pose as him and take the killing meant for him. The two men lay down their grudge, and Team 7 helps rout Kanabun's furious gang.

Heading back to Konoha, Naruto called revenge and vendettas pointless, only for Sasuke to insist he could never grasp how much a vendetta might mean. Back in the present, Kakashi arrives to thank Tazuna and Inari for their help, and when Tazuna asks after Sasuke, Sakura grows quiet while Kakashi fumbles for words. Naruto covers for them, saying he and Sasuke quarreled and Sasuke left, while vowing to bring him back so the group can reunite.

The episode is a reflective anime-original entry within the Past Arc: The Locus of Konoha run, and it adapts a single manga chapter. Its emotional weight lies in Naruto confessing that, after feeling his own thirst for revenge when Jiraiya was killed, he now finally understands the pain Sasuke once described, and pledges to fight him again to bring Team 7 together.
