Please, Mr. Postman!

Returning to Konoha after a job, Naruto pauses at a resort town built around a hot spring, where he crosses paths with a Courier Ninja, a specialist whose only duty is carrying mail across the harshest routes imaginable. His mood sours the moment he finds Jiraiya lazing about with a group of women. Jiraiya defends himself by admitting that the delay in Naruto's training came from an assignment tracking Akatsuki, whose operative was said to be heading for the very same town.

With spare hours on their hands, Naruto pushes for lessons, but Jiraiya insists he first finish writing his newest book. The old author keeps stalling until sleep takes him with the pages incomplete, so Naruto quietly finishes the draft himself and handed it to a courier for delivery, muddling the parcels after a collision with two passing men.

Once Naruto confesses what he did, a panicked Jiraiya scrambles to recover the manuscript, terrified for his reputation. The retrieved bundle turns out to hold a signed accord between the Land of Fang and the Land of Claw, two neighbours teetering toward open conflict, meaning Naruto's racy pages were now bound for the Fang Daimyō, who might read them as a provocation. The pair chase the courier down, but the daimyō receives the wrong package first.

The gamble collapses into farce: the Fang Daimyō adores the Icha Icha books and takes the manuscript as a gesture of goodwill from the Land of Claw, so the looming war is called off entirely. Jiraiya then departs, since his Akatsuki quarry had already slipped away, and Naruto heads home to await his mentor's return.

This is a filler installment of the original series, numbered 177, that leans on comedy built around Jiraiya's writing career and the running gag of his adult novels. It also introduces the Courier Ninja concept, a class of shinobi defined purely by mail delivery across dangerous terrain.
