Sasuke and Boruto

Boruto is set on chasing after his father, but Sasuke steps in and blocks him. On his way to see Naruto, Sasuke spots the Hokage's discarded old outfit lying in the street and gathers it up. Inside the office, Naruto is busy scolding himself for having wrecked Himawari's birthday, while Shikamaru pitches in on the mountain of paperwork. Sasuke then arrives bearing a scroll recovered from Kaguya's ruined castle.

He recounts being ambushed there by Kinshiki Otsutsuki, and how a second Otsutsuki interrogated him about Kaguya while eyeing his Rinnegan, a detail that leaves both Naruto and Shikamaru uneasy. Sasuke passes along the clothes he found and mentions his encounter with Boruto, prompting a conversation about the boy and the spirit of a shinobi. On his way out he crosses paths with Boruto again, halting the boy so effortlessly that Boruto asks to become his student, still stung by his father missing Himawari's celebration.

Sasuke names his price for taking Boruto on: the boy has to learn the Rasengan. Boruto turns to Konohamaru, who drills him with water-balloon exercises that leave him unenthusiastic. His friends notice his fatigue the next day, and Sarada guesses it ties back to her father's sudden appearance. While cooking pancakes for Himawari, Boruto finally grasps the rotation, and he keeps grinding away with a rubber ball as Sarada quietly observes him.

When Boruto shows Sasuke his progress, Sasuke remarks that the sphere is undersized, and the frustrated boy hurls it away and storms off. Sarada thinks Sasuke has been harsh, but Sasuke reveals he was actually ready to accept Boruto, noting the damage the thrown Rasengan left on a far-off tree. Boruto vents to Katasuke, who hands him a scientific ninja tool capable of storing ninjutsu. Elsewhere, Orochimaru counsels Mitsuki to hide his real power during the exams. In the end Boruto performs the Rasengan and Sasuke takes him on as a pupil, fully aware he leaned on the gadget.

Shikamaru mistakenly places the Fourth Shinobi World War ten years in the past, though the established figure is fifteen. The episode also reworks several beats from the film Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Shikamaru is now in the room when Sasuke reaches the office, the castle in the flashback appears more battered, and Sasuke is seen retrieving the scroll before Kinshiki strikes, with their fight spilling outside. Boruto also confronts his father at the office and meets Sasuke there rather than ambushing him in the street, arrives at Konohamaru's without his forehead protector, and forms the gauntlet Rasengan one-handed instead of with both hands.
