The Closed Door

Naruto regains his senses inside a modest hut, tended by a young woman who gives her name as Isaribi. His gratitude quickly turns to anger once he sees that the surrounding townsfolk treat her as an outcast, and he scatters a group of children who have come to torment her. Far away, Orochimaru holds a meeting with Amachi, a researcher running experiments on his behalf, while Sasuke lingers nearby and shuts the discussion down the moment it turns to him.

The rest of Team Anko lands on the island and receives its briefing: they are to protect a scheduled shipment while keeping watch for the so-called Demon of the Ocean, the Kaima. When Naruto crosses paths with the creature, he recognizes it as Isaribi herself. Yoroi's timely arrival gives her the opening to slip away, and the two vanish together. Anko tries to give chase, but her cursed seal erupts with such agony that she loses consciousness before she can follow.

Isaribi is introduced as the girl who nursed Naruto back to health, and her status as a village pariah becomes clear. Naruto drives off the children harassing her. In a separate thread, Orochimaru, Amachi, and Sasuke are shown coordinating hidden experiments. Team Anko reaches the island and pinpoints the Kaima, which Naruto identifies as Isaribi. Yoroi surfaces to cover her retreat, and Anko is left incapacitated by the flare-up of her Cursed Seal of Heaven.

This installment belongs to the anime-original Kaima Capture Mission storyline and carries the number 170 in the original Naruto series. It first aired in Japan on February 1, 2006, and reached English audiences on May 31, 2008. The opening theme is Wind and Waves Satellite and the closing theme is Parade.
