The Difference in Power

Sasuke's Konoha Military Police Force unit rounds up a gang of thieves and roughs them up, then parades the captives through a village unnerved by their heavy-handed tactics. Minato, Hiruzen, and Itachi note the group's growing violence and agree the situation demands caution. Choji, Ino, Sakura, and Shikamaru survey a once-busy street now emptied by the police's strict rules, where food stalls used to line the way, and a newly returned Naruto takes in the same change. When the Uchiha officers harass an elderly shopkeeper, Naruto steps in, and Sasuke senses something has shifted in his old rival. Their confrontation is cut short by Danzo, who quietly presses Sasuke on how long he intends to keep himself restrained while Kakashi watches from a distance.

As Naruto and his friends talk about reining in Sasuke's excesses, nearby Uchiha overhear and pass word along. Acting without authorization, they move to confront Naruto at his home and even threaten to arrest Kushina. The involved officers are taken into custody, and Fugaku, disappointed in the man his son has become, removes Sasuke from the force. Craving power, Sasuke turns to Danzo, who steers him toward training under Orochimaru, and Sasuke walks away from the village.

The episode is an anime-original entry in the Jiraiya Shinobi Handbook: The Tale of Naruto the Hero arc, set in a what-if world where the Uchiha clan survives and Minato still lives. It reimagines Sasuke's descent and departure through the lens of an alternate Konoha. A background gag has one of the defeated thieves resembling the character Jako.
