The Sharingan vs. The Lightning Blade, Kiba the Fang!

As Boruto watches Kagura advance with Hiramekarei in hand, Sarada finds herself dueling Buntan, who wields the lightning blade Kiba. Sarada raises her Sharingan to read the barrage of Lightning Balls hurled her way, dodging each one while Buntan relishes the chance to test herself against the famed dojutsu. Wary of being caught in genjutsu, Buntan keeps her distance and steers Kiba by remote, conjuring a Lightning Fish that pens Sarada onto scattered rocks and denies her the room to weave hand seals.

Nearby, Chojuro holds his own against several of the rogue swordsmen at once, baiting Hassaku into an attack that frees him from his restraints so he can reclaim his own blade. To rattle her rival, Buntan taunts Sarada with the story of Raiga Kurosuki, the father Buntan says fell to Naruto without ever knowing she existed.

Sarada goes on the offensive, mirroring Buntan's Lightning Release with her copied technique, though Buntan sheathes herself in electricity through Kiba and flings her rival into the water toward the waiting fish. Iwabee rescues Chojuro from an ambush by Ichirota, cutting him down before the swordsman detonates Shibuki in a bid to take Iwabee with him. Chojuro, meanwhile, finishes off Hebiichigo and Hassaku and forces Kyoho to yield.

The duel turns on Sarada's cunning. When Buntan appears to behead her, the image proves a genjutsu Sarada laid once she drew close enough to copy her opponent's jutsu. She has also noticed the fish trailing bubbles, evidence that its current has been splitting the surrounding water and filling the area with hydrogen. Sarada ignites the gas with an explosive tag, and the blast finishes Buntan just before she herself collapses, while Kagura presses his own assault on Boruto.

This episode 30 of the Boruto series falls in the School Trip Arc and first aired in Japan on 25 October 2017, followed by an English broadcast on 12 May 2019. Its opening theme is OVER and its ending is I Keep Running.

The moment when Buntan seems to sever Sarada's head was toned down for the original Japanese television airing and simulcast, holding on the frame just before the strike lands rather than showing the blood. The uncut footage was later reinstated for the DVD release.
