The Third Raikage's era was plagued by a recurring disaster: the jinchūriki carrying the Eight-Tails would repeatedly slip out of control and let the beast run wild. To answer this threat, the Third put together a dedicated group whose sole charge was reining in the Eight-Tails each time an outbreak occurred.
When the beast broke loose, the team moved to shackle it with chains, which the anime describes as reinforced by fūinjutsu, and worked to keep it occupied. Their goal was to buy the Third Raikage the window he needed to bring out the Kohaku no Jōhei and seal the creature away. This tactic put the members in constant danger against a raging tailed beast.
The Third Raikage himself led the effort. The repeated failures of hosts to master the Eight-Tails cost Kumogakure dearly, and the casualties included Furui, one of the team's own. The rampages finally ceased once the beast was sealed into Killer B, who succeeded in taming it where his predecessors had not. With the threat neutralised, the unit is presumed to have disbanded.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Killer B is the jinchūriki who finally tamed the Eight-Tails, succeeding where earlier hosts had failed. The Eight-Tails Subduing Team had been formed under the Third Raikage specifically to restrain the beast whenever previous jinchūriki lost control of it.
The Eight-Tails Subduing Team was a Kumogakure unit created by the Third Raikage to restrain the Eight-Tails whenever its jinchūriki lost control and let the beast rampage. Its job was to contain the outbreaks until the beast could be resealed.
The Third Raikage personally led the Eight-Tails Subduing Team. Furui was among the team's members and was killed during one of the rampages the unit was formed to contain.
When the Eight-Tails broke loose, the Eight-Tails Subduing Team bound it with chains reinforced by fūinjutsu and worked to keep it occupied. This gave the Third Raikage time to bring out the Kohaku no Jōhei and seal the beast away.
Once the Eight-Tails was sealed into Killer B, who succeeded in taming it where previous hosts had not, the rampages stopped and the threat was neutralized. With no further need for its mission, the Eight-Tails Subduing Team is presumed to have disbanded.
