Summary

The crow that Itachi once left within Naruto bursts free from his mouth. When Itachi tries to unleash Amaterasu on Naruto, the bird meets his gaze and forces him to halt. Redirecting the black flames, Itachi burns Nagato's canine summon before rounding on Nagato himself and his winged beast. He then tells Naruto the story behind the crow's Mangekyō Sharingan, explaining that Shisui Uchiha entrusted him with the eye and charged him to use it in the Leaf's defence. Kabuto, eavesdropping, gloats that his fortune only keeps improving.

Nagato tears himself loose from the flames with Shinra Tensei, and Kabuto appears to strip away his lingering will. Slipping behind Naruto atop a chameleon summon, Nagato lashes out again with Shinra Tensei at both Naruto and Killer B. He tries to strike B directly, but the jinchūriki shifts into his Version 2 form and answers with a Tailed Beast Lariat. Nagato then invokes the Preta Path to siphon B's chakra, the theft restoring a more youthful look to his body. With that renewed power, he seizes Naruto and moves to apply the Human Path technique.
