Resting alongside Orochimaru and Kabuto, Sai realises something of his has gone missing. Far away, Sakura, Naruto, and Yamato pore over the picture book he left behind. Its outer pages show Sai at one end and his brother at the other, each battling assorted foes until their stories converge toward the middle, where the artwork trails off unfinished. As the group keeps moving, Sai arrives at Orochimaru's base and comes face to face with Sasuke.
Sai notices his picture book is missing while Naruto's team examines it. The book depicts Sai and his brother fighting toward an incomplete center. Sai reaches Orochimaru's hideout and encounters Sasuke.
