With Guy pressing him to lay it out plainly so the group can rework their plan, Kakashi explains that what looks like two separate powers, Tobi's ghost-like intangibility and his knack for absorbing things, are actually the same phenomenon. Whenever Tobi seems to turn insubstantial, he is really banishing the targeted portion of his body into a separate dimension, letting every strike pass harmlessly through the space it left behind.

The catch, Kakashi continues, is that his own Kamui reaches into that very same dimension. The electrified kunai he sent away slipped through Tobi's supposedly untouchable form and landed in the other realm, grazing the body part Tobi had stashed there to fake his intangibility. When B asks how the two jutsu could share one dimension, Guy hesitantly starts to question Kakashi, only for Kakashi to talk over him and confront Tobi directly about where his Sharingan came from. Tobi admits that he acquired it during the earlier war at Kannabi Bridge, back when the world hailed Kakashi as the Hero of the Sharingan.

Left speechless, Kakashi can only listen as Tobi scolds him and defends the Eye of the Moon Plan as humanity's salvation. Naruto refuses the argument outright, declaring that he will never surrender his dreams, so Tobi tries to wound him by asking how he will feel once he has failed Jiraiya and Minato. Kurama then asks its host to trade places and addresses Tobi itself, stating that it was placed in Naruto's care, a friend it now trusts, precisely so the two of them could bring Tobi down.
