Windhole

The Ten-Tails' Tenpenchii ends in ruin, unleashing violent twisters and lightning that lead a Susanoo-cloaked Madara to presume the Allied Shinobi Forces have been annihilated. As the dust settles, though, the shinobi stand unharmed, each shielded by their protective cloaks. Naruto faces the beast bloodied and spent yet grinning with certainty. The Ten-Tails perceives the shapes of the tailed beasts, absent Gyūki and Shukaku, arrayed behind him, and beyond them a Rinnegan-eyed silhouette gazing back. Rattled, the creature begins to change form as the cloaks fade and Naruto drops to one knee, drained.

Madara, admitting the fight had grown dull and that he has already turned his attention toward Hashirama, looks over to see the Alliance close ranks around Naruto, guarding him while Sakura begins to mend his wounds. In another place, Kakashi and Obito arrive within Kamui's dimension. Kakashi finds his balance first and lunges, but halts his Lightning Cutter just before it pierces Obito's chest. He tries to reach his old comrade, having realized Obito has been trying to layer his younger self over Naruto.

Obito insists his motive is the reverse, declaring he did not start a world war merely for Rin. Slipping through the Lightning Cutter untouched, he stages a replay of the moment Kakashi killed Rin, then reveals he knew the Mist had turned Rin into Isobu's jinchūriki solely to devastate Konoha, and that Rin threw herself onto Kakashi's blade to shield the village. He names the entire village system and its shinobi as the thing he set out to destroy, since nothing good ever came of it. Claiming he can no longer feel pain, Obito shows Kakashi that his chest holds no heart, only a windhole carved by the hell of this world.

The Allied Forces survive Tenpenchii unscathed thanks to their cloaks, and Madara wrongly assumes them dead. The Ten-Tails glimpses the tailed beasts and a Rinnegan silhouette behind Naruto and transforms. The Alliance rallies to defend and heal Naruto. Obito phases through Kakashi's attack, reveals the truth of Rin's death and his war on the village system, and declares himself heartless.

Set in the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax arc and volume 66, the chapter is a turning point for Obito's ideology. In the original serialization Shukaku's chakra appeared inside Naruto with the other beasts, but the tanuki was removed in the collected tankōbon edition.
