Apis is a young girl from Warship Island and the granddaughter of Bokuden. As the central ally of the Straw Hats throughout the anime-only Warship Island Arc, she carries the Hiso Hiso no Mi and devotes herself to guiding an ancient dragon named Ryu back home.
Apis is a fair-skinned child with brown eyes and blonde hair gathered into a single slim braid. She dresses in a long mustard yellow gown whose sleeves and hem shift to maroon and are dotted with mustard-colored circles, worn over a matching undershirt and cinched with a dark maroon sash. A pointed white hat tops her head, and red shoes round out the look.
Brave and tender-hearted, Apis throws herself into shielding her friend Ryu and makes guiding him home her purpose in life. Because she cares so deeply, she feels things harder than most, fretting, panicking, and crying readily, yet she can flip from terror to Luffy-like excitement once danger turns into adventure. A running joke follows her dreadful cooking, which Luffy alone seems willing to stomach. Her Devil Fruit, the Hiso Hiso no Mi, lets her converse telepathically with animals and pull useful warnings from them, such as an oncoming gale.
Working alone, Apis tried to keep the ancient Thousand Year Dragon, Ryu, hidden away, only for Nelson Royal to capture her. After she escaped, the Straw Hats took her in and supported her along the way, eventually returning her to Warship Island, where she accidentally led them to Ryu. The group then set out together to find the fabled Lost Island, sailing through a mirage to reach what they believed was it, only to learn that Warship Island itself was the dragons' true nesting ground.
On the voyage back, the mercenary Eric grabbed Apis as a hostage; she bit him and was flung aside and injured, prompting Ryu to attack in her defense before being shot into the sea, leaving her weeping. Once the Lost Island rose from the water she rushed to Ryu, furious to hear the nesting site was also a graveyard, until Luffy showed her a dragon egg about to hatch and helped her grasp why Ryu longed to return. Offered a place in the crew, Apis declined, choosing instead to stay and guard the island, and waved the Straw Hats off. Bokuden then began schooling her in their ancestors' history, sending her fleeing from his endless tales. She later appears in One Piece: Stampede, riding the Puffing Ice across Delta Island.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
