Barbarossa

A big man, Barbarossa sports a fuzzy beard and equally fuzzy eyebrows. He drapes himself in a cloak and, matching the rest of his crew, balances a tiny umbrella atop his head.

There is a playful, joking side to Barbarossa, and his crew is gullible enough to fall for nearly every prank he pulls. He carries the warmth of a father figure, regarding his crewmates as family and lifting their spirits when despair sets in.

His deep familiarity with the desert lets him recognize its many hazards, and he possesses a measure of strength as well, briefly halting a massive ball of dung rolling toward his ship before being comically flattened without real harm. While crossing the sands, the Barbar Pirates seized Nefertari Vivi, Matsuge, and Nami. A parched Luffy crashed onto their deck after wrecking the mast, and Barbarossa greeted him with the crew's creed that nothing but friends can be eaten in the desert, then introduced himself and apologized for mistreating Luffy's companions. When Zaba reported that they lacked timber to mend the broken mast, Barbarossa rallied the crew and directed Zaba and Rasa to lead the Straw Hats to wood at the Meriyasu Oasis. Desert Bandits later threatened them, but a boulder sent down a cliff by a giant bug interrupted the standoff; Barbarossa failed to stop it before Sanji and Zoro did. With the mast repaired, the crew journeyed to Ido for water and bid the Straw Hats farewell. He was last glimpsed after the war chasing off Warusagi birds that had stolen liquor from his ship.
