Pushing on toward Yuba, the Straw Hats and Ace contend with the desert's endless dangers, from a venomous scorpion to thieving birds and lizards lurking beneath the sand. By the close, the crew has picked up a new camel.
With Erumalu now behind them, the crew and Ace press onward across the desert in the direction of Yuba, weathering its countless threats. Once again Vivi and Nami spell out what Dance Powder is and the ruin it inflicted on Arabasta.
Parched, Luffy is allowed a single gulp of water but stuffs his cheeks to bursting, earning a blow from Nami. By the campfire that night, Ace tells Vivi that Luffy has carried his charisma and his knack for friendship since boyhood, never changing in the least. Come morning, Luffy nearly handles a lethal scorpion, mistaking it for a shrimp, until Vivi shouts at him to leave it alone. After winning a game and then groaning about having to lug every piece of gear, he sprints ahead to a cluster of rocks and finds wounded birds groaning on the ground, then dashes off to fetch Chopper. Returning, the crew discovers their belongings have vanished, and Vivi identifies the thieves as Warusagi, bandit birds that prey on travelers. Luffy gives chase into a patch of carnivorous plants, wrenches free of one, and rescues a camel from the same jaws. A Sandora Lizard buried in the sand then springs at them; Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy fell one, while Ace erupts from inside the mouth of another with a burst of fire. The Straw Hats dine on the lizard's meat, Nami dubs the camel Matsuge, and the journey resumes.
