Bogard

Bogard is a tall man, rising about half a head above Garp, with short brown hair and a Marine coat draped loosely from his shoulders. Under that he sports a double-breasted beige suit set off by a light green collared shirt and a dark brown tie, finished with a wide-brimmed beige fedora whose brim throws shade over his eyes. A katana rides at his left hip, its grip wrapped in grey, its guard a golden cross with rounded edges, its sheath deep green. A near-constant scowl sits on his face so that even his uncommon smiles look like smirks, and strikingly his appearance has scarcely changed across nearly forty years of duty.

For decades Bogard has shown firm loyalty to Garp, appearing beside him time and again over a long career. Against Garp's loud, brash manner he comes across as strikingly restrained, raising his voice only when a situation truly warrants it.

Bogard was already at Garp's side some thirty-eight years back, joining the fight at God Valley against the Roger and Rocks Pirates and living through the upheaval there. Twenty-seven years back, he was present at Kong's office as Garp once more declined the admiral post and departed to take on Roger as the Edd War approached. During the East Blue saga he accompanied Garp on the run to deliver the disgraced ex-captain Morgan for trial, called for cannon fire on Morgan's getaway boat, and cut Koby's pistols to pieces when the boy moved to block the shot; he went on to coach both Koby and Helmeppo in swordsmanship. He surfaced again at Water 7, identifying the arriving Zoro and flatly telling Garp to just report the Straw Hats as having gotten away, and two years later he rode Garp's battleship for SWORD's raid on Hachinosu.

A seasoned, talented officer who has supported Garp since the days of the Rocks Pirates, Bogard handles his katana with precision, capable of shredding Koby's guns in seconds without a scratch on him and of parrying three swords with one hand. His exact rank goes unstated, but his Justice coat and suit imply he sits above lieutenant.
