Boodle

Glasses and a mound of curling hair define this senior citizen, the locks gathering thickly on his crown and trailing along each side of his neck. Once jet black, the hair has faded to gray with age. His everyday wardrobe runs to airy shirts, shorts, and sandals.

While Buggy's crew held the town, he strapped on an awkward suit of brown leather plating, a chestpiece paired with arm and leg guards, though he shed it once the threat passed. Two years later his face carries deeper lines, and he has added a bowtie to his look.

Having helped found the settlement, Boodle pours an almost overprotective devotion into Orange Town and everyone in it, making room even for niche traders such as Hocker and, later, that man's loyal dog Chouchou. For the most part he keeps a level, practical head. That same loyalty, though, can curdle into a stubborn, boyish pride that drives him to gamble on risks he has no business taking.

Boodle began as one survivor among many after pirates leveled his original hometown. He pitched the idea of starting over on an empty stretch of the Organ Islands, and his drive rallied crowds of people through roughly forty years of toil that turned raw land into the thriving harbor of Orange Town. Across those years he struck up an odd bond with a pet-food seller named Hocker, propping up the man's shop even when trade dried up. After illness claimed Hocker, his dog Chouchou kept a permanent watch at the storefront and quietly fell under Boodle's care.

Months after that loss, Buggy the Clown and his crew overran the port. Powerless against them, Boodle and the residents scattered and became refugees a second time, with only Chouchou refusing to leave. The mayor took to sneaking back in to feed the animal, and on one such trip he crossed paths with Nami, Roronoa Zoro, and a caged Monkey D. Luffy. He sheltered the wounded Zoro and explained Chouchou's story, but fled when Buggy's men closed in. Watching the dog and Luffy refuse to back down shamed him into action, and he declared the town his treasure before charging off to face Buggy alone. Buggy's powers throttled him with ease, and when Luffy rescued him, the proud old man bristled at outside help, so Luffy bluntly knocked him cold to keep him out of danger.

Once the Straw Hats had flattened the entire crew, the returning townsfolk mistook the trio for fresh invaders and drove them off. Boodle came to, grasped how much he owed them, and tore down to the docks to shout his thanks as they sailed away. He and the residents soon ran the last of Buggy's men out of town. Two years on, with the port recovered, he and Chouchou opened a new pet-food shop christened in the dog's honor. Much later he listened to Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast while chatting with Chouchou and a young girl.
