Hocker

Years showed on Hocker, an old man with a faintly lined face, a beard, and short purple hair. He wore a pale red shirt, white trousers, plain brown footwear, and topped it off with a red woolen cap. The two adaptations draw him differently, the anime rendering him lanky and tall while the manga makes him short and rounded.

His shop and his dog were everything to him. The trust he placed in Chouchou ran so deep that he left the store entirely in the animal's keeping when sickness sent him to the hospital, a parting that turned out to be permanent.

Four decades before the story's start, Hocker was one of many survivors of a town leveled by pirates who resettled on the Organ Islands and raised Orange Town. There he grew close to the mayor, Boodle, set up a pet shop, and kept a dog named Chouchou. When a mysterious illness took hold, he went off to see a doctor and entrusted the shop to Chouchou, but the sickness claimed him and he never came back to either his dog or his store.
