Born Yamada Taro, Chinpy is the lead character of the comedy spinoff Chin Piece and captain of the Makiguso Pirates. A crude parody of Monkey D. Luffy, he idolizes the Straw Hat captain and builds his whole fighting style around mimicking Luffy's rubber powers.
In childhood Chinpy is drawn as a clear Luffy stand-in, dressed in a ragged open vest and rope-tied shorts. Where Luffy has his straw hat, Chinpy perches a sleeping tanuki on his head to fill the role. Grown up, he carries an ordinary build and dons a formal suit for office life, though the tanuki stays with him.
As a young pirate he is brazen and unembarrassed, thinking nothing of flaunting his abilities before total strangers. Adulthood tames him into a man who keeps to social convention, until the sight of his old friend Kusopp being humiliated by a boss reignites the reckless spirit that sends him back to his old ways.
Unable to make his body stretch like Luffy's, Chinpy trained the one part of himself that could, building it into a versatile weapon that he extends, reshapes, and wraps around objects, and which is strong enough to bear his weight from a tree branch. From it he derives a roster of gag techniques that echo Luffy's named moves, from a forward-thrusting "pistol" to spinning, propeller, and screw variations, plus a separate family of dung-based attacks unlocked by eating certain foods, including an armor coating and homing projectiles; he later picks up an imitation of Armament Haki after eating squid-ink pasta. Looking up to Luffy from the start, he recruited a parody crew across the spinoff, including Kusopp, Mechayowa Yoro, the cook Sasoz, and Chiyobbaba, clashing with figures like Sekken De Tearai and Mooo...rgan along the way. The group disbanded after Yamada Shinichi urged him home, and twenty years on he became a salaryman before a final outburst on Kusopp's behalf drove him back to adventuring, ending with another arrest for public indecency.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Chinpy, born Yamada Taro, is the non-canon lead character of the comedy spinoff Chin Piece and captain of the Makiguso Pirates. He idolizes Monkey D. Luffy and models his entire fighting style on Luffy's rubber powers.
Unable to stretch his whole body like Luffy, Chinpy instead trained one part of his body into a stretching weapon, using it to perform parody versions of Luffy's named techniques, including a forward-thrusting pistol attack and spinning propeller variations.
Chinpy recruited a parody crew that included Kusopp, Mechayowa Yoro, the cook Sasoz, and Chiyobbaba, together forming the Makiguso Pirates.
Chinpy's crew disbanded after Yamada Shinichi convinced him to return home, and Chinpy went on to spend twenty years working as a salaryman.
Chinpy returned to adventuring after seeing his old friend Kusopp humiliated by a boss, an outburst that ended with Chinpy being arrested again for public indecency.
