Kusopp is a parody version of Usopp from the spinoff Chin Piece, serving as the straight man of the Makiguso Pirates. A reluctant recruit who never wanted a pirate's life, he eventually grows up to become an ordinary office worker.
In childhood Kusopp loosely mirrors a young Usopp, though he lacks the famous long nose. He dresses in a white shirt under pale-blue overalls. To compensate for the missing feature, Chinpy sketched a paper nose that Kusopp keeps taped to his forehead, a habit he never drops, carrying it even into adulthood. Grown up, he wears a formal business suit and sports a thin beard.
Doubtful and grounded, Kusopp stands apart from the other village children by having no interest at all in becoming a pirate. Much like the original Usopp he parodies, he naturally falls into the role of the comedic straight man, playing the level-headed foil to the absurd antics around him.
While crossing town, Kusopp ran into Chinpy, who mistook him for a stand-in Usopp and pressed him to join a knockoff Straw Hat crew, taping a drawn-on nose to his face. Kusopp refused and tried to leave, but after bounty hunters and then Sekken De Tearai attacked, Chinpy dispatched them and forced Kusopp aboard. The pair traveled to Gacha Gacha Island, where Chinpy emptied a gacha machine chasing a satisfactory Zoro figure and recruited the last fighter standing.
The crew gathered more members across a string of islands, picking up the cook Sasoz, the muscle-born Dareyorimo Tsuyoi, and the seamstress Chiyobbaba, while Kusopp suffered through bad cooking contests, Marine chases, and a memorable spell trapped in a pile of dung. After meeting Yamada Shinichi, who urged Chinpy to return home, the group disbanded.
Two decades on, Kusopp settled into life as a salaryman. He crossed paths with Chinpy again on a train, and after his boss mocked his ambitions, Chinpy buried the man in dung and resolved to set sail once more. Some time later, Kusopp read that his old friend had been arrested.
