The Decalvan Brothers are a pair of notorious New World captains who served under Whitebeard. During the war at Marineford they helped lead the allied fleet that fought to free Portgas D. Ace from execution.
Believed to be twins, given their shared birthday, the two dress alike in overalls, with long black hair hanging loose around their broad faces. One man's face is wider than the other's and carries sharper teeth. A curious quirk defines them: each keeps a single large eye open, rimmed heavily in black, while the other eye, scarred over, stays shut, and the opened and closed eyes are reversed between the two brothers.
Their headgear consists of brown and yellow tricorn hats worn above polka-dotted bandannas, one in red and one in blue. Each hat carries the crew's flag, a pair of skulls above crossed bones beneath a rippling design. Completing the look are long yellow gloves whose fingertips end in razor-edged nails.
Their dispositions remain largely a mystery, though their loyalty to Whitebeard speaks clearly. Given the chance to escape along the path their captain opened with his quake ability, they refused, choosing instead to remain and battle for Ace's sake. The brothers also reacted with fury once the Marines' underhanded scheme came to light, regarding such conduct as deeply shameful.
Long before the present events, the brothers and their crew built a dreaded name throughout the New World and pledged their service to Whitebeard. That reputation made them a natural pick for leadership: after the connection to Squard was severed, Whitebeard granted them and select other captains command of every New World pirate present, in answer to Ace's execution being moved up.
When Whitebeard pardoned Squard after being stabbed, the brothers noted how mortified the man had to feel for being deceived by the enemy. They afterward rallied to support the assault led by Ivankov and Luffy, acting on their captain's command. The Blackbeard Pirates' lethal barrage that killed Whitebeard left the two weeping, and with Shanks and Sengoku declaring the war finished, they departed alongside the remaining allies.
In non-canon material, the brothers are shown attending the funeral held for Whitebeard and Ace on an undisclosed New World island. Their later fate, also non-canon, has them losing an argument and a fight to Edward Weevil, with one brother's face turning up among the defeated reported on Kizaru's desk. In the anime they additionally held Vice Admiral Dalmatian off during the battle and once clashed with Thatch in a flashback.
