Elmy is a notorious New World pirate captain who threw in her lot with Whitebeard. She surfaced during the great clash at Marineford, one of many independent captains who answered the call to rescue Portgas D. Ace from his execution.
Flamboyant and elderly, Elmy carries a vast mound of curly red hair beneath a small hat topped by two feathers. Thick dark purple liner surrounds her eyes, pinkish-red lipstick frames a mouth missing several teeth, and an ornate pearl necklace rests amid the folds of her neck. She piles on more besides: jeweled earrings, rings covering every digit of at minimum her right hand, a holed purple blouse, a two-tier pink skirt over fishnet stockings and white boots, and a chunky yellow beaded necklace over the skirt.
Little of Elmy's character is documented beyond her firm devotion to Whitebeard. Offered the escape route his power had carved open, she chose instead to remain and gamble her life on saving Ace, a choice that underlines how loyal she is to him.

Having carved out a reputation in the New World and earned a place beneath Whitebeard, Elmy can be taken for a formidable fighter; the manga shows her wielding a cutlass, marking her as a swordswoman. She had sailed and waged many battles across the New World for years before becoming one of his subordinates. Once Ace's execution was made public, she stood with forty-two fellow captains who rallied to the Whitebeard Pirates against the Marines, helping to jointly bring down a Pacifista and later watching Akainu survive his near-fatal defeat at Whitebeard's hands. After the Red Hair Pirates appeared, Sengoku let the surviving pirates depart. In a non-canon episode, a dispute with Edward Weevil ended in her loss, the news of which turned up on Kizaru's desk. Manga panels also place her beside a strange bandaged, oozing humanoid during the war, a figure whose nature and master were never clarified.
