Kindness defines Fabre, who let the Straw Hats onto his island even though pirates had once killed its protector, Ryudo. He worries genuinely for the safety of his residents and holds deep affection for Boss, agonizing over whether to surrender the creature before resolving to defend both it and the island from the Amigo Pirates.
History
At some point Fabre relocated from the East Blue to Little East Blue and rose to become its mayor. After Boss came crashing down, Fabre headed out to look into the matter together with Yoko, and he marveled as she calmed the beast.
During the Little East Blue events he greeted the Straw Hat Pirates warmly, even hosting a feast in their honor. When the Amigo Pirates interrupted the celebration and demanded Boss, Fabre refused, and after Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji were beaten down, he led the villagers, hoe in hand, ready to fight. Once Boss shed its skin and freed the captives, the townspeople and Straw Hats brought down Corto along with the remaining Amigo Pirates. Fabre then caged the defeated pirates and saw the Straw Hats off as they departed.
