Gal

Gal is a stocky, fair-skinned man with a wide midsection and a small nose set above a large mouth that is missing a front tooth. His red hair stands on end, and a scar cuts across the area above his left eye. His outfit combines a sleeveless blue shirt with light-blue pants, black shoes, brown gloves, a brown belt, and a brown cloak, and a tattoo reading G-5 marks his left arm.

Courteous and trusting by nature, Gal spoke warmly with Tashigi and took Vergo's lies at face value, never suspecting the deception beneath them.

Little is documented about Gal's combat strength, though the anime shows him fighting with a sword. As one of the G-5 Marines under Smoker and Tashigi, he took part in the unit's harrowing campaign on Punk Hazard. When Tashigi asked where Vergo went during his absences, Gal told her the officer claimed to visit a sick sister in his hometown. The branch sailed to Punk Hazard answering a samurai's distress call, clashed with Trafalgar Law, who cut their ship and even split Tashigi, and weathered the mind-switch of their two superiors. The Marines fought through the spreading Shinokuni gas alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, helped rescue the kidnapped children, and were stunned by Vergo's open betrayal before Sanji stepped in to defend Tashigi. By the arc's end the unit had reached an uneasy truce with the crew, came to quietly admit their gratitude, and witnessed Doflamingo's brutal assault on Smoker followed by Kuzan's intervention.
