Slim and tall for a giantess, Gerd has long blonde hair, two side braids among it, and dark brown eyes that were blue in childhood. Her outfit is a revealing single-piece garment of purple fur whose neckline plunges to her stomach while leaving each leg exposed along its side, a lone striped stocking in black and yellow climbing nearly to her waist on the left leg, an eggshell cape frayed at its hem, and fur boots. As a girl she kept her hair at shoulder length under a yellow checkered kerchief, dressed in a long-sleeved frock of light blue.

Warm and approachable since childhood, Gerd happily befriended Charlotte Linlin despite occasionally fearing her, sharing a love of sweets, especially semla, with great enthusiasm. She is deeply kindhearted, once trying to mend ties between the giants and the youngsters of the Sheep's House. By her own account she adores humans and finds them adorable, comfortable enough to carry them around, though she stresses that on this point she resembles her crewmate Road not at all, openly disliking him. Linlin's rampage at Elbaph traumatized her, yet she pushed past it to grow into a strong warrior.

More than six decades back, Gerd saw Charlotte Linlin arrive at the Sheep's House, after which the pair of youngsters became friends, Gerd teaching her Elbaph's customs. When Linlin's craving sickness drove her to rampage amid the fast of the Winter Solstice Festival, Gerd summoned Mother Carmel and looked on in horror as the destruction spread and Jorul was fatally wounded; she then saw Carmel form Pandora from the flames. Decades on, she acknowledges the old friendship but holds Linlin's deeds unforgivable. Forty-eight years ago she tried to defend Hajrudin when Loki beat him down, striking Goldberg for hesitating. Twenty-two years back she, Hajrudin, and Goldberg recovered books cast into the lake after Ohara's destruction and carried them to Elbaph. Years later she signed on with Hajrudin's bid to bring back the Giant Warrior Pirates and became the crew's doctor, the group serving Buggy's Delivery as S-Class mercenaries and top earners before defecting to the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, which enraged Buggy. During the Elbaph Arc she and Goldberg intercepted Road after he kidnapped the Straw Hats, knocked him out, and brought Luffy to his crew. She guided the crew around the homeland, treated Loki's grave injuries, crafted Elbaph-style clothes for several Straw Hats, and joined the fight against the World Government. When Imu came to Elbaph and demanded its king, he severed her fingertips while she held the captured Sommers, leaving her and her allies incapacitated; Chopper later reattached the cleanly cut fingers, and her newfound respect for Road grew after his selfless rescue of his brother.
