Spiky black hair tops this young boy, who ties a white hachimaki across his brow bearing the kanji for sword. His outfit consists of a blue vest worn over a kimono-style shirt.

Hilt has a bold, headstrong streak, daring to set foot alone on an island like Little Garden and squaring up to a grown adult far stronger than himself. He claimed to be stuck in a slump because his craft had stalled, though he later confessed he was simply fleeing his troubles. Fierce pride in his smithing leaves him stung at being called an amateur, and he has a tendency toward absent-mindedness.

His trade is weapon-smithing, and he carries a kit of tools on his back, a hammer chief among them. Early on his output faltered, but after poring over a blade forged by his ancestor and grinding through repeated attempts, he managed to craft massive, top-quality arms for Dorry and Brogy. He has little talent for fighting, though he did briefly stave off some dinosaurs. Born into a line of blacksmiths and trained in the craft, he grew frustrated with his stalled work and followed a treasure map promising riches left by his forebear, reaching Little Garden only to be set upon by two tyrannosaurs. The Straw Hats rescued him, and after he let the treasure's existence slip, Nami took his map and bound him to share the spoils. Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine captured him at the western cliff, where the giants unearthed the prize: gigantic legendary weapons. After Luffy defeated the agents and Maasu stole the axe, Hilt chose to remain on Little Garden, studying the recovered sword and forging fine new weapons for the giants before returning home.
