Honner

Honner cut an ordinary build with short black hair and slender eyebrows. A trimmed beard framed his jaw, and his outfit combined a sleeveless top with striped trousers, a bandanna, and a neckerchief.

Steadiness defined the doctor. Even staring down the threat of execution, Honner held onto a calm, level temperament, though the occasional shock could still catch him off guard. He shared Noland's admiration for the customs of native peoples, drawing the line only at their crueler practices. His loyalty to his admiral ran deep, and he kept watch over Noland's welfare, growing troubled as the explorer's bond with Kalgara began to fracture over a misunderstanding.

As the fleet's medical officer, Honner handled wounds and dispensed vaccines to the crew. He understood ailments such as Tree Fever, including how they spread and the scale of devastation they could cause if ignored, knowledge that proved central to his role on Jaya.

When Noland's expedition reached Jaya, they came upon a frail Seto stricken with Tree Fever, prompting Noland to have Honner inoculate the entire crew with their remaining conine as a safeguard. After Noland killed Kashigami and rescued Mousse, the Shandia jailed the sailors and scheduled their execution unless the sickness ravaging the tribe could be cured. Honner steadied his frightened crewmates by urging faith in their admiral and described Noland's character to a curious, separately caged Mousse. Once Noland returned with Kona Tree samples to brew more conine, the men were freed, and Honner carried out a mass vaccination of the Shandia while also tending Noland's injuries. A month later he raised the tribe's mounting anger over the felled trees, learned from Mousse that the sacred trees were themselves disease vectors, and relayed their significance to Noland just before departure. Years afterward, when Noland faced execution over the supposed lie about Shandora, Honner and the others tried to defend him against a false witness but were restrained by the Lvneel military. His fate following Noland's execution is unknown.
