Personality

Ian gives the impression of being well versed in such matters, identifying the Rainbow Mist almost as soon as it came into view. Knowing what it was did nothing to calm him, however, and like so many of his fellow pirates he found the phenomenon frightening.

History

Some five decades before the present day, Ian backed Wetton in the chase after the Pumpkin Pirates, who had tried to steal the Tarielishin. Out at sea he was first to recognize the Rainbow Mist, and his dread of it turned out to be justified. The mist swallowed him along with the Pumpkin Pirates and held him for the next fifty years, during which the children took him prisoner aboard a derelict Marine ship. A sword hung at his side, though how well he handled it was never confirmed.

He won his freedom by fooling Rongo and dragging the boy off as a hostage. As the surviving Pumpkin Pirates and the Straw Hat Pirates rushed to save Rongo, Ian hurled the child into the water, exploited the distraction to slip free, and made for Ruluka. Reaching it, he confused Lake with Wetton and embarrassed Flip by exposing that the man had wet himself often as a child. In the end the Pumpkin Pirates, now serving as Marines, returned and placed him under arrest together with Wetton, Flip, and Lake.
