Kaya is a wealthy young woman from Syrup Village on the Gecko Islands and a dear friend of Usopp. Once sickly and grieving, she survived a plot by her treacherous butler Kuro and went on to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
Kaya is a pale, slender girl whose shoulder-length hair is a soft blonde. Her wide eyes are brown and rendered in a gentle, light shade. For all the wealth at her disposal, she dresses plainly, usually in a simple long dress or modest everyday pieces like a skirt and jacket rather than anything extravagant.
At first Kaya was a frail, melancholy heir whose illness stemmed largely from worrying herself into despair after losing her parents. Tender and averse to violence, she recoiled when Usopp attacked her butler and his guards, fainting from the shock, and she initially refused to believe ugly truths about the man she trusted. When Kuro finally bared his contempt and mocked her cherished memories, she dissolved into tears. Yet her compassion runs deep: she could not bring herself to fire a pistol at him, and she was willing to take her own life to keep children safe. Now healthy and confident, she lives cheerfully, trusting easily and working toward her goal of becoming a doctor.
Orphaned and left a fortune, Kaya fell ill and was tended by her caretaker, the butler Klahadore. In secret the village's resident liar, Usopp, would visit to entertain her with tall tales and lift her spirits, though Klahadore disapproved and eventually drove him off. What Kaya did not know was that Klahadore was the pirate Captain Kuro, who schemed to murder her and seize her inheritance. When Usopp tried to warn her, she slapped him, certain he was slandering a loyal servant.
Only after her butler Merry was gravely wounded and confirmed the plot did Kaya accept the truth. She rushed to confront Kuro during his battle with Luffy and the others, leveling a pistol at him but dropping it in tears as he coldly admitted his murderous intentions. The Usopp Pirates fled with her into the forest, where Jango cornered them and forced her to sign a will. She threatened suicide to protect the children, and just as Jango moved to kill her, Usopp's group and Zoro intervened to save her life.
Grateful, Kaya gifted the Going Merry to the Straw Hats and resolved to study medicine, hoping one day to heal Usopp should he return injured. In the years that followed she apprenticed under a local doctor, kept watch on Usopp's exploits through the newspapers alongside the former Usopp Pirates, and during Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast spoke admiringly of the scientist's legendary standing in the medical field.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Kaya survived a murder plot by her treacherous butler Kuro, who secretly planned to kill her and seize her fortune, before the Usopp Pirates and Straw Hats stopped him; she later gifted the Going Merry to the crew and became a medical student.
Kaya's illness stemmed largely from the deep grief and worry she felt after losing her parents, rather than a purely physical ailment.
The story does not explicitly confirm a romance, but Kaya and Usopp share a deep bond, and she hopes to personally treat his injuries one day after training as a doctor.
Kaya owned the ship that became known as the Going Merry and gave it to the Straw Hat Pirates as a gift after Usopp helped save her from Kuro's plot.
Kaya is training to become a doctor, inspired by her wish to one day heal Usopp if he returns from his adventures injured.
