Overview

Better remembered by their original name, this group is now formally the Usopp Security Force, a trio of kids who appointed themselves protectors of Syrup Village and of Kaya. Usopp started it seven years before the story as a pretend pirate band and led it until joining the Straw Hat Pirates, at which point he dissolved it. The surviving children later revived it as a security outfit in his honor. Their old flag resembles a typical skull and crossbones, except the jaw is replaced by a mouth stretched into a long vertical oval, an image fans liken to The Scream.

Role

In their early days the children backed up Usopp's running gag of warning the village that pirates were coming. Their first real test came when Captain Kuro plotted to murder Kaya: the kids helped her flee, mostly by dodging and hiding from Jango, whom Kuro had sent to coerce her into signing everything over. When Usopp announced he was leaving for a genuine pirate's life, the group held a tearful breakup, vowing never to let their ambitions die. Reformed as the Security Force, they later chased Jango out of the village and became Kaya's unofficial bodyguards.

Notable Members

The founding captain was Usopp, with the core trio being Tamanegi, Ninjin and Piiman, whose names play on onion, carrot and pepper, hence the 4Kids rename to Veggie Pirates. The members have followed their former leader's career with pride from afar, instantly recognizing him under the Sogeking mask by his nose, weeping with joy at his return after the timeskip, and beaming when his bounty climbed to 200,000,000 Berries.
