Koni Boakeno

Standing taller than two meters, Boakeno is an enormous figure shaped like a sumo wrestler, thickly muscled and clad in a mawashi. He gathers his hair into a topknot atop his hulking frame.

Cruelty comes easily to Boakeno, who feels no hesitation about fighting or killing children. There is a battle-hungry streak in him, an itch for a good scrap, yet he obeys without question and will stand down the instant Artur Bacca, whose authority he respects, tells him to.

Trained in sumo, Boakeno pairs his massive size with wrestling technique to overwhelm opponents, usually flattening them in a strike or two and growing genuinely startled when anyone endures longer. His signature move, the Yokozuna Bomber, has him seize a foe by the waist, lock their joints against his own, lift them, and leap to crush them under his weight. He first tried it on Sulong Bepo, who reversed their positions in the air and smashed Boakeno into the ground instead.

Not long before the novel's events, Boakeno traveled to the Grand Line with Bacca's crew, where half their number died before the survivors fled back to the North Blue and resolved to raid Swallow Island for Captain Ladoga's treasure. He took little part in the opening assault on Pleasure Town. When the Heart Pirates struck the Temple of the Sea God, he faced Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin, praising their skill; he nearly downed Bepo early, but by breaking part of the roof he let the Mink shift into Sulong form and turn the fight around, ending in his defeat. His name appears to draw on the sumo wrestlers Konishiki and Akebono.
