Personality

Maitei holds his abilities as a tamer in high regard, even though his actual skill is fairly ordinary. The Blugori under his care happen to like him and obey as a result, which only feeds his swollen self-assurance. His confidence outruns his competence by a wide margin.

Abilities

His real strength lies in animal handling backed by a measure of veterinary know-how, having nursed and reared injured Blugori. In combat he relies on a rifle, which he wields with practiced accuracy. The two Blugori he commands form the muscle of his operation.

At some point in the prior two years, Maitei came across two Blugori that had escaped Impel Down during the mass breakout. He healed their injuries and trained them with a plan to send them on a rampage and then sell them through black-market channels, an endeavor that earned him his bounty. In Odyssey he carried this scheme to Dressrosa, only for the Straw Hats to track him down, beat him, and hand him to Margin for the reward; Chopper urged the Blugori to depart peacefully, sparing them. Margin then recruited the captured tamer into the Bounty Pirates, and he joined an ambush on the crew before being defeated and surrendered to the Marines once more. In the Water Seven Memoria of Iceburg's arrest, the World Government hired him to guard Dock 1, where he competed against Insk and Mooji for a permanent post until all three were beaten by the Straw Hats.
