Margin worked as a go-between for the World Government and pirates, ostensibly handing over the bounties placed in his care. In truth he pocketed any outlaw he judged promising, quickly assembling his crew from criminals the Straw Hat Pirates had already beaten. Once he decided the band was strong enough, he turned on the Straw Hats and tried to recruit them by force.
